BILL COLEMAN: HIS LENSES ON THE AMISH
Bill Coleman is a photographer who lives in State College, Pennsylvania. He had a successful portrait business until 30 plus years ago, and then his life changed dramatically.
One afternoon, he tagged along with a friend to a remote Amish village and never
really left, at least mentally. Physically, he and his camera became a familiar sight on their landscape, a most unusual occurrence since the “plain people” do not condone photographs of any kind.
Therein lies a story that you will only see on
The New Windsor Park Stories . The viewer will learn about Coleman’s odyssey to this Amish village and meet some of his friends.
And what a stunning look it is. Bill Coleman and the Amish in the two shows that will air on WBRE TV, Channel 28, Sunday Morning at 11:30 a.m., December 3 & 10.
The Amish are joyous, hard working, honest, innocent and friendly if they know you. The children you will see in these programs love to laugh.
The viewer will tour the countryside and see buggies going along scenic roads, wave to farmers driving their teams of horses in the field, visit an Amish cemetery and stop at a market selling groceries and baked goods.
It is an insight into the lives of people who tend to the land in same way they did 200 years ago while maintaining a unique way of living that is very different from the popular culture.
Throughout the trip, Coleman talks about what he has learned from the Amish and how he has changed during his 34 year odyssey.
The photographer explains his need to continue his photographic record of the Amish
world so that future generations will know about them and their beliefs.
Coleman says this is so important because the Amish are gradually losing their land and development is encroaching on their farms. They number about 200-thousand in the United States.
We invite you to join us for a two part episode of the New Windsor Park Stories that will lift your spirits and cause you to think about what really is important in life.
